Dr. Philip Lewis

Biography
Dr. Philip Lewis is a senior academic leader in film and arts education with more than two decades of experience developing, leading, and scaling academic programs across international higher education institutions. He has a strong track record of building film and media programs from inception to maturity, notably at Georgia State University, New Mexico State University, and The International Business School in the United Kingdom and Hungary.
Alongside his academic leadership, Dr. Lewis brings over four decades of professional experience in film and television production. He has worked internationally as a director, producer, and writer across fiction and documentary formats, delivering projects for global distribution and collaborating with major broadcasters and media organizations throughout his career.
Dr. Lewis is widely recognized for his expertise in film direction, fiction and non-fiction writing, producing, sound design, directing actors, and film publicity. His professional collaborations include major industry players such as Turner, HBO, CBS, and NBC, as well as project development work for institutions including the Smithsonian Institution, National Geographic, the City of Mesilla, Ford Motor Company, and the Daniels Foundation for Ethics.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lewis has played a pivotal role in developing local film industries, television studios, and education-led creative ecosystems, with a focus on strengthening economic viability through the arts. His work has consistently bridged academic frameworks with professional practice, supporting workforce development and sustainable sector growth.
Dr. Lewis holds a PhD in Interactive Documentary Film from Queensland University of Technology and a master’s degree in Media Management from Indiana University. He is committed to advancing film education that is globally benchmarked and industry aligned.
